Frequently Asked Questions:

What is the First Semester Worksheet?

The First Semester Worksheet is Records and Registration’s platform for building schedules for incoming first-year students. The worksheet is designed to provide you with information about building your schedule and, where applicable, collect your course preferences.

In conjunction with your academic department, the staff at Records and Registration will register you for courses required in your major and use the course preferences you indicate on your worksheet to complete your schedule.

Will I be placed in all of the courses I select?

No–some of the preferences you indicate will only be used if needed to complete your schedule.

For example, you may be asked to select six Liberal Learning courses even though you may only take one during your first semester (or none, depending on your major). This will assist us in cases such as the following:

If one of your Liberal Learning preferences if no longer available, we will attempt to place you in another preference you’ve indicated, or in an alternate course that best matches your interest.

If you place out of one of your major requirements (with test scores or college credits) your Liberal Learning preferences may be used to complete your schedule.

How long will it take to complete the worksheet? Do I have to finish it in one sitting?

The time required to complete the worksheet will vary based on your major. While you don’t need to complete the worksheet in one sitting, you should set aside a reasonable amount of time to thoroughly complete the worksheet and review the relevant materials.

For instance, you should allocate sufficient time to browse the FSP course topics and their descriptions, and to review the 2020 Placement and Assessment booklet.

The worksheet will save your progress if you exit, but all worksheets must be completed by the June 12th deadline.

Can I change my answers after I submit the worksheet?

We will take your preferences into account during the registration process, but please be aware that once your submit the worksheet you will not be able to go back into the worksheet to make changes.  If, after submitting your worksheet, you need to correct/change something, you will need to complete a new worksheet.  The Office of Records and Registration will use the information on your latest worksheet submission, as long as it is submitted by June 12th.

Make sure to save and/or print your summary of responses after you submit the worksheet.

What if the major listed on the worksheet is inaccurate?

The major listed on your worksheet is based on enrollment data as of May 21, 2020. If you have changed your major after May 21st, please complete the First Semester Worksheet for your previous major.  Your new major department and the Office of Records and Registration will enroll you in the correct Fall 2020 classes for your new major.  If you have any questions or concerns, please email

What if I am expecting AP or IB test scores and/or college credits?

Please have your scores sent directly to TCNJ and transcripts sent to TCNJ’s Office of Admissions. Answer the questions on the worksheet to the best of your ability based on the information you already know.

Why am I being asked about Housing and Winter Session courses?

While this information is not used for enrollment purposes, we collect it as survey information for future institutional planning.
